About Nestor Morales
My financial advisor journey began in 2004 in the mortgage industry. I was a teenager in the middle of the subprime crisis. I gained a tremendous amount of real estate knowledge during that period and developed excellent customer service experience.
After the banking industry crisis in 2008, I transitioned into the entertainment business and had a modestly successful career as a musician and event planner. I started an entertainment company called House Star Entertainment, furthering my self-branding skills and expanding my network across NY. I learned how to be an entrepreneur & how to run a business.
I was introduced to the insurance industry in December of 2012 and never looked back. My mortgage experience had prepared me to be the best of the best in the insurance business. I began as a Licensed Sales Producer and worked my way up in the ranks. I soon realized my true potential, and after my destination wedding in 2016 I opened my own agency in Melville.
After 3 million dollars of premium, 2 awards & 15 employees with my previous agency, I found Farmers.
From all I have seen in the mortgage & insurance industry, I now operate with a deeper purpose. I refuse to treat people as just a number with a strong code of ethics. When you invest for retirement, you typically have three main options:
You can put the money into a retirement account that's offered by your employer, such as a 401(k) or 403(b) plan. These plans are great deals because the money will grow tax-free until you withdraw it in retirement. What's more, you escape taxes either on the money you put into the plan or the money you withdraw from the plan, depending on whether you choose a traditional or Roth option.
You can put the money into a tax-advantaged retirement account of your own, such as an IRA. IRAs offer similar tax breaks to 401(k)s, though some of the eligibility rules differ.
You can put the money into a regular investment account that doesn't have tax advantages.
The first two options are far better deals, but there are limits on how much money you can put into them each year. If you've put all the money you're allowed into tax-favored plans and you want to save even more for retirement (for example, because you got a late start in saving and need to make up for lost time), you'll have to use a regular investment account.
