What is the difference? Reconstruction value is calculated based on the cost of rebuilding your home in the instance of peril, such as a fire. Market value will refer to the current cost that your home would fetch in the marketplace. The market value of a home would almost certainly include the cost of the land and foundation, not just the home itself. We write our home insurance policies based on reconstruction value.
If you had to rebuild your home, you don't have to purchase the land or foundation a second time. Remember, land and foundation are factors of market value! Reconstruction value allows us to concentrate on the true factors that you need to cover yourself with.
