Meet Todd & Julie Mears, owners of the Golden Rule. Todd & Julie met when they both worked at Lands’ End in Wisconsin. As life evolved they found themselves at a career crossroads. On a trip back to Todd’s home in Rolla, ND, Julie mentioned that Todd should buy her that cute clothing store on Main Street. Well, 2 years later they took a risk and began their career as small business owners! Todd & Julie are the 2nd owners of the Golden Rule in Rolla, ND which originally opened in 1943. They bought the Rolla store in July of 2001. 10 years and 3 kids later, the opportunity came to purchase the former Four Seasons clothing store in Bottineau, ND which they remodeled and opened in May of 2011. 6 years later, Todd & Julie were drawn south to Wahpeton, ND where they got the old JC Penney’s building and re-opened it as the Golden Rule in October of 2017.

The couple has been a leading force in the community & retail environment in each of these 3 towns. They are so grateful to all of the customers, employees, & communities that have supported the Golden Rule throughout the years! True to the name of the store, we strive to live by the Golden Rule of treating others as you want to be treated.

Small town charm meets latest fashion trends at this little gem. There's always something new and fun at the Golden Rule!
